In 2014, Morgan Davis, a young girl from Bremen, Kentucky had an idea that would literally change her life and the lives of the people around her. Morgan would soon be celebrating her 13th birthday but....as I mentioned, she had an idea. Morgan decided instead of the usual birthday party that most kids her age expect, she decided she wanted to make a change...she wanted to make a difference. And did she ever! Morgan gave up her birthday so that she could help others in need. Thus, Mission 13 was born! Her upcoming 13th birthday party would soon escalate into something that even she had never even dared to hope for. She has inspired so many in her community and beyond. And it's my hope that she will inspire YOU. Here is a letter Morgan wrote for a newspaper article recently that I'd like you all to read: "As the new year begins, so does the start for Mission 13. For those of you who may not know about Mission 13, let me tell you about it. My name is Morgan Davis, I am in the 8th grade. When I was 12, the Lord really dealt with my heart to do something memorable and something special for my 13th birthday. Not knowing God's plan for my life, he let me experience something great and wonderful. He allowed me to go to my church youth, Temple Baptist, to serve Thanksgiving dinner that year at the Nashville Rescue Mission (www.Nashvillerescuemission.org), a Christ~centered life recovery and homeless shelter. The rescue mission is all donated and all volunteer. No government assistance. They serve over 2,000 meals per week, 365 days per year. I knew that this was the plan for my special day, so I planned to donate all my birthday and every birthday, to helping others in need. So I created Mission 13. I will keep the name to remember where God started his big plans for my life in helping others. We received so many donations through my birthday plan and so much support from so many people and churches in the community. I was overwhelmed with the amount of clothing, food and so much more. My mission work is 100 percent donated to Nashville Rescue Mission. This is all non~profit, donated work. I ask nothing for myself. This year we ask each and every one of you to help in any way you can. Get your friends, families, churches, businesses, youth groups or anyone else involved in making a difference for someone in need or someone hurting. We take all clothing, new and used, food, shoes, blankets, baby items, OTC meds, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, toiletries and snacks to make blessing bags. You can join us on Feb. 20th at 5:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church to fellowship and donate. Volunteers are welcome. We will go to the Rescue mission on Feb. 21st to make our donation. Anyone is welcome to join us and experience this amazing place. Join me in feeding the hungry, restoring hope and making a difference. Remember, the more we get, the more we can give. For any questions, you may contact Mission 13 through Facebook or contact us by call or text at (270) 977~1301. Thanks and may God bless each and everyone that has made this vision come true." Morgan What an amazing letter by an amazing young girl! Morgan's plan for Mission 13 started with a few mentions on Facebook, people began talking about it in churches around the community and she was interviewed by the local newspaper. People were clamoring to help, as she mentioned in her letter, sending her food, clothing and other items that were so desperately needed for the Rescue Mission. Gorgeous T~shirts were designed and printed courtesy of Central Screen Printing Party Time!! The big day has finally arrived and the whole community was invited to come out and share it with Morgan. The room quickly filled up as more and more people stopped in to wish Morgan a happy birthday and drop off their donations for Mission 13. After that....it was delivery day as they headed on to Nashville to the Nashville Rescue Mission! It was a day filled with lots of smiles and tears.... and many thanks!! To say that Muhlenburg County is proud of her is an understatement. KENTUCKY is proud of her !! And I believe that this girl will touch many, many more lives in the years to come because Mission 13...is just getting STARTED.
Thanks for stopping by and letting Morgan and I share her story with you all! Leave her a comment to show your support for her and visit her page, Mission 13 on Facebook and give her a "LIKE" !! I've never asked any of you to "SHARE" any of my blog postings but I am now, for Morgan. Please share her story on your Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest...anyway you can. Let the world know how great she is. Let HER know how great she is. Be good and be pretty and as always.... ✻ღϠ₡ღ✻ God Bless ✻ღϠ₡ღ✻ |
